Hand-embroidered artwork by artist Andrea.bordando, exhibited at the Clio Art Fair

"Embroidery is, for me, a way to return to myself. It is a language I rediscovered as an adult, but one that has lived within me since childhood. I resumed this practice in search of a quiet, intimate space of my own. Over time, it became a form of personal expression—and also a form of resistance: against urgency, uniformity, superficiality, and technology.

I work with hand embroidery on fabric, without mixed techniques or digital interventions. I’m interested in creating from scratch, stitch by stitch, an image with purpose. My pieces represent diverse bodies, multiple identities, and scenes from both the human and natural worlds. I aim to inhabit reality through detail, repetition, trial and error, and the slow time each embroidery requires—a kind of active, creative meditation.

My work reflects both personal and shared stories. Each thread is a way of connecting with other possible worlds. I feel that textile art allows me to inhabit the present with honesty, depth, and beauty."

“Friends” features seven women in a circle that represents the endless, and often
unseen, support of friendship. Though one woman stands in the center, no woman
is the center of attention. Each draws the viewer’s gaze and - despite standing
together - declares her own individuality.
