Clio Art Fair Spotlight: Alex Z. Wang, a Review

“My work is an exploration of stillness in motion — a meditation on atmosphere, memory, and emotional undercurrents that resist language. Working primarily in oil on canvas and alcohol ink on paper, I create layered abstractions that hover between presence and absence, clarity and dissolution.

I’m drawn to transitional states: the space between inhale and exhale, the shift from dusk to night, the blur between form and feeling. Each painting begins as an intuitive gesture and becomes a site of quiet accumulation — veils of color and texture unfolding gradually into a visual field that invites contemplation.

Influenced by dance, cinema, and the rhythms of the natural world, my practice is rooted in movement — not in what moves, but in how movement feels. These works are less about what is seen and more about what is sensed. They are invitations to slow down, to soften focus, and to find meaning in the liminal."
