Artist Luiz Carlos Leit in his studio
"My work draws direct influence from early 20th-century art movements, combining the dramatic atmosphere of German Expressionism and the freedom of Dadaism with 1950s American Abstract Expressionism. Highly inspired by the streets and urban environments, my paintings feature rich, material textures where subtle characters and figures occasionally emerge, while in other moments they completely disappear into pure abstraction. Ultimately, my canvases are visceral records of life, inviting observers to read the artwork through their own memories and senses."

Luiz Carlos Leit exhibited his work in the past at the 22nd edition of Clio Art Fair, held from May 7-10, 2026. Here is a short interview with the artist and a review of his experience at the fair.
Luiz, can you please describe your art in four words?
Urban, expressive, automatic, free.
What inspires your art?
My greatest source of inspiration comes from early 20th-century cinema, the history of film, and the pioneers of early visual effects. I am deeply moved by the experimental nature of those first moving pictures and how they explored visual language. This cinematic atmosphere, combined with a continuous pursuit of absolute artistic freedom, is what drives my creative process and shapes the development of my paintings.
How would you describe your experience at Clio Art Fair?
My experience at the Clio Art Fair was fantastic because I was able to mix my work with artworks coming from different places around the globe, completely unique from my own. It felt like being part of a great worldwide family and having my art placed alongside people with totally diverse proposals. This was incredible because it truly matured the window through which I view the art being created today. The experience was wonderful; everyone was extremely attentive and polite, and I felt deeply welcomed and at ease.
