Clio Art Fair Spotlight: A review by Jung Duri

"After graduating with a major in Korean painting, I have been making my way in 형태의 한국화 (hyeongtaeui hangukhwa), which translates to Korean Painting through Form.

When I learned about traditional Korean painting, the most impactful concept was 여백의 미(Yeobaeg-ui mi), the beauty of blank space. Rather than filling in the space, empty spaces leave room for imagination. This point is well connected to my work subject, mythical creatures.

They exist as in stories like myths, fairy tales, or even our imagination; that's why I use 여백의 미 (Yeobaeg-ui mi) to express them, to make room for imagination. Add my interpretation here, presenting the form and impression of the subjects, not detailed, figurative description. Therefore, my paintings are embodied and completed in the audience's imagination, which is what my works aim for."

Mythical creatures in Korea.

How would you describe your experience at Clio Art Fair?

It had been well processed during all the steps for sending my work. My contact led me through so that I could get it done without problems. Overall, it was a really good experience.
