Each week will feature a new roster of international artists and artist collectives, offering collectors, curators, art professionals, and the public a fresh and diverse experience across both weekends.

 

Clio Art Fair continues to break the mold of traditional art fairs by providing a high-visibility platform for artists without exclusive gallery representation. Clio Art Fair is a contemporary art fair held biannually that focuses on showcasing independent artists without exclusive gallery representation in NYC. Clio is an alternative to larger, historical art fairs which are often dominated by blue chip galleries and high-priced artworks.

Clio Art Fair aims to create an intimate and approachable environment for both artists and collectors. Each independent artist is given their own exhibition space and the possibility to interact directly, without filters, with the collectors and art lovers that visit the space. The fair features a diverse range of contemporary art, including painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and installations. It also offers a performance program.

We also pride ourselves on being very attentive to the architecture of our venues, thus not creating booths, but trying to respect as much as possible the spaces that host us.

Clio Art Fair was born with a clear mission: empower independent artists and give them a spotlight during NYC Art Week.

Clio Art Fair is an international contemporary art fair held in New York City dedicated exclusively to independent artists and artist-run spaces. Founded to create opportunities outside the traditional gallery system, the fair focuses on presenting artists who do not have exclusive representation in New York.

This spring’s editions will take place in a prime gallery location in Chelsea, creating an intimate fair environment that encourages direct engagement between artists, curators, and collectors.

In addition to its exhibition program, Clio Art Fair integrates performance and interdisciplinary practices, fostering a dynamic context that highlights experimentation, dialogue, and artistic autonomy.

We live in a time where almost everything is expected to have a purpose.

To be productive. To perform. To generate results. To be useful.

This September, Clio Art Fair creates space for another possibility:

What if art does not need to be useful?

​

Art does not always have to solve a problem, deliver an answer, or justify its existence. Sometimes it can simply

interrupt, question, provoke, exist, or create a moment that could not have happened otherwise.

​

Performance sits at the center of this experience. It unfolds in real time — shared space, shared presence, no filters.

​

For this edition, Clio invites performances that resist the pressure to be productive or easily defined. Works may explore the body, identity, memory, absurdity, resistance, repetition, vulnerability, failure, freedom, or simply the act of being present.

​

Within the fair, these performances create moments outside the expected rhythms of viewing and collecting art.

They ask audiences not only to observe, but to experience.

​

Art does not always need to serve a function.

Sometimes, its freedom lies in refusing to.
