Clio Artist Spotlight: Bev Yankwitt

Artist Bev Yankwitt in her studio

Bev Yankwitt is a non-objective abstract artist whose work is rooted in spontaneity and the exploration of pure imagination. She creates without reference to reality, allowing the creative process to unfold organically. Bev does not begin with a fixed plan or reference photo; instead, she is guided by intuition, responding to the evolving interplay of color, texture, and form. Her work is a reflection of the joy she finds in discovery, as each piece surprises her with its unique direction.

Primarily working with acrylics, Bev often enhances her paintings by incorporating hand-painted collage papers, stencils, or stamps, enriching the depth and texture of her pieces. Having painted abstracts for several years, she remains constantly inspired by the limitless possibilities the medium offers. Though mostly self-taught, Bev has expanded her knowledge through local classes and workshops, both in-person and online, which have further fueled her artistic growth.

Bev has showcased her works in the past Clio Art Fair's 17th edition in September 5-8, 2024. Here is our short interview with her!

Bev, can you please describe your art in four words?

Non-objective, abstract mixed media.

What inspires your art?

I don’t need inspiration, I just get to work starting with an intent which could be anything from this is going to be a low key painting to this will be an abstract landscape.

How would you describe your experience at Clio Art Fair?

I enjoyed being there. I felt honoured to have my art exhibited in a show in New York City. All of the employees with whom I interacted were very friendly and helpful. I though the public attendance was very good, especially the opening reception.
